Maybe its too early, but I think the 4.5 or whatever we are paying him is going to look reaaal reaaal smart here in a couple years.

Having a legitimate center will definitely help him, in my opinion. I think he is more creative on the wing.

I feel that Murray has a better idea of how to spend team dollars. Granted it could be too early to tell. The ROR deal will probably be the biggest in terms of money well spent or not.

It's going to be really nice to see Ennis playing with guys that have a higher skill set. Don't get me wrong, I love Girgensons, but he should not be a #1 center.

As much as I disagree with a lot of things that Andrew Peters says, his comment "if Girgensons is your 3c, you're a deep team" is pretty spot on.

That O'Reilly deal scares me quite a bit. It sets the bar for the young guys coming up and I don't know that O'Reilly is really worth that much. Is he a good hockey player? Yes. Is he worth $7.5 per year? I don't think so. I would have been much more comfortable with him in the $6 mil range. I know he was going to get a raise and stuff, so I kind of get why it is what it is, but I still don't like it.

Exactly. I hate the fact that he's being pushed to 3C, but at the same time, it's a pretty terrifying thought too. I think it's great that he's good enough to slot into the top 6, but that they aren't going to need him there.

agreed, goosie...I do like the fact that at age 20/21 he was able to hold his own in that situation...his 15 goals and 15 assists projected out to 20+20 over an 82-game season which isn't bad, especially considering what was going on

It will be, since he wasn't the one who gave it to him.

from everything I've read and gathered, he's a premier all-situations, two-way center who produces and does a lot of things on the ice that go unnoticed...from 6M to 7.5M it's a 25% premium, which, if everything rings true, is not bad at all

I'm going to slap the first person that says "But he's only a 3c".

If he can play like a Jeff Carter/Rick Nash (before the slide, plus more defense) I think the dollars will make sense, but it's yet to be seen.

Agreed. It's a risk but he's the kind of player I'd risk it on. Biggest concern would be production but if he's playing with Eichel for the majority of this deal the point total will likely go up as well.

I know. I'm one of those weirdos that watch pretty much any hockey game that's on. So I've seen him play and I know he's a good player. I just don't like that 7.5 is the bar that's been set for guys like Eichel who we know are going to produce at a higher rate and aren't exactly slouches in the other situations as well.

i did think that at first but after last season i see no reason why he couldn't be a top 6 guy.. if he is our 3C that means we have a deep team up front. and i like it

I'm not to worried about the bar being set by a guy on the Sabres. The reality is, by the time Eichel's initial contract is up, there will be plenty of players around the league for his agent to use. Someone out there will have similar numbers and probably be making more than the 7.5 million O'Reilly does. That is the contract that sets the bar.

Granted, O'Reilly's contract doesn't help as hopefully Eichel is out producing him, but that alone won't make the difference.
